It all depends on how much money you make. There is a program for low income family's that you have to make below a certain amount and qualify for an earned income credit that is usually around 2 grand a child. The only way to really know is ask around. Call the IRS. Believe it or not, they can sometimes be helpful. However, my advice on saving a lot of money, if you don't already, file you own taxes. You can get an easy program to do so right online. Takes a few weeks off the process of receiving your return.

You are not going to get back more then what you normally get back because the baby was born in October. If you had the baby in may or june depending on what you do, you would get back a large amount.

Your accountant could help you with this question, but the basics are this:
There is a child credit that you MAY qualify for, of up to $600. You may also be able to quality for a partial credit ov child care expenses (if you had any) assuming that you and your spouse work.
