Yes. There are however some issues as to whom you are honest with, what you are being honest about and why. For example, it would not be wise to be 'honest' with an alcoholic and/or abusive person who is going to beat you up for your "honesty" but given the correct circumstances, such a person needs to hear the truth. Be honest with yourself first. Be very discreet being "honest" with others because you need to examine your own self first. Some are just bitter and strike out viciously and call it "honesty" but in reality they are just venting frustrations. This is called violence in my book and should be dealt with in other ways like maybe a long walk or punching a pillow. Being honest about your feelings can often be done privately at first until such time they can be made public (if ever) by keeping a diary for example. Keeping things bottled up is not good. Honesty is the best policy but you need to use discretion.

How about the "Diary of Ann Frank"? Honesty to the wrong people at the wrong time would have been disastrous.

This is a 50-50 policy. Depends on when you will be honest or not and what the situation calls for. In my opinion, if being honest will cause pain to another, then witholding information is best. If in case honesty will correct a wrong, then be honest. Sometimes, you can "edit" facts without having to lie.

A policy is a general rule that applies across situations. So, yes, honesty is the best policy. It should be one's "default" for various reasons: it's easier, people will trust you, etc. But to say that it's the best policy is not to say that there aren't occasional situations in it isn't best.

No. Complete honesty is very destructive at times. The reason is that we all live in a dishonest and imperfect world. So, sometimes, it is not the best thing to be completely honest.

No matter what someone says, if they tell you that you can be completely honest with them; they are lying (unconsciously).

They will always remember and will use your honesty against you someday (unconsciously).

So, be truthful according to your life. In other words, tell the "truth" that maintains your current life (but only when you absolutely have to - it should be very rare that you withhold information or "lie").

Not always, it depends on what it is about. Some times silence is the best policy or ignoring something if it is something like that hair style is just yuck on you. Then again if it is a lie like psychiatry promotes that hurts a lot of people and our whole society it is generally best to tell the truth that there is no valid and reliable science for what they do to anyone. So I guess it depends on what it is about?

no matter what happens in life,no matter how bad something looks ,if you love yourself and can always face the person you face in the mirror every morning. then you've answered the question YES honesty is the best policy.

No
honesty can never be the best policy
because sometimes you have to lie because if you said the truth it would be rudeness not honesty - if your friend bought a new dress and it is awful she is so happy with it and she asked for your opinion sure you wont tell her that it is awful on contrary you will tell her it is nice because she have already bought that dress an she is happy with it mm mm ....... am i right?

Honesty is the best policy...if you want peace with yourself....but if you are seeking your own personal interest...then you might not be happy cuz...with honesty you win....eventually...not right away.

The world is a deceitful place. Honestly, I believe a person needs to learn careful evaluation of whom they reveal themselves, and learn phrases that throw off inquiring minds, "Why do you want to know?" Your honesty could be used against you.

It is good to teach children honesty, but also to protect their privacy..

In most cases yes.

But there really isn't a good answer to the question as in some situations, honesty would be a really bad idea.
