Thjere are 2 main reasons.FIRST...Most republicans did not vote because they are trying to send a message to the republican leadership that we want leaders who will do what they say they will do and NOT cowards. What Mark Foley did wasw wrong, immoral, and stupid,BUT when a democrat congressman actually has sex with an underage page, and not just emails, the other dems flock to his defence and give him standing ovations !!The republican leadership did not use this historical fact, but instead allowed the media and the dem elites to pretend that they are all unblemished angels.
SECOND...Most democrats vote democrat NO MATTER WHAT the candidate stands for,or believes,or what crimes he has committed (Ted Kennedy is the perfect example). While most republicans (like myself) will vote for a democrat if we agree on certain issues.

Because the failed to solve any of our nations problems. It's the whole reason the Democrats lost power in the middle of Clinton's first term.
Both parties are filled with money-grubbing corporate fascists who abuse their power. There are very few honest men and women in government.
While we play two card monte with the world's greatest superpower, other nations are becomming more advanced in terms of education and literacy. Meanwhile, we spend trillions of dollars every year and have no national healthcare or free college education for all. Other countries spend less and accomplish more.
The Republicans and Democrats have failed. Until people begin systematically voting out all incumbents and implementing massive reforms, the system and the dollar will collapse under the weight of debt and corruption.

Many people are seeing the war in Iraq for the lost cause it is and demanded change. The war in Iraq is playing on the minds of both the democrats and the moderated repuglicans and the vote was the result of that.

Because Bush made promises to the evangelicals that he never kept, and that pissed them off big time. The single biggest reason the GOP lost was because they simply didn't go vote. I give huge assists to Iraq and Foley. Foley was really the icing on the cake.

GOP lost its way...the GOP is typically social and economic conservatives. The mass appealing part of the GOP stems from endorsing responsible governmental spending and smaller governmental power. That's their cliche rhetoric. They typical label the Dems as tax and spend liberals...the recent GOP ouster is based on huge governmental expenditures and huge empowerment of government to barge into peoples lives. They turned their back on some of their base principles...now they should go back and rethink how to get those elements back.
