i just wanted to know. or do you have to have the hole screenplay

You need to have a screenplay to show. No one is going to pay you for a generalized idea. A good script makes or breaks a story.

The only expection to this rule is the movie "Saw"...it started out as an 8 minute short film that the writer (Leigh Whannell) showed at film festivals that piqued the interest of someone that wanted to make it into a full length movie, but still, they wanted the original writer to expand on his script and he was able to because of his writing talent.

Bottom line, if you want to shop ideas, you need major writing talent to back it up to make a full feature length (or more) screenplay work.
