You still need to get sworn in on the Bible. Whether people believe in God or not, this country was founded on the principles of Christianity and the forefathers set certain rules and traditions. Get over it.

What else to ' use ' as getting sworn in ?

Myself, I'm simply spiritual, and my being elected . . . I'd simply keep one hand to my side, maybe holding the hand of my sweetie, and with the other hand I'd raise it while being sworn in...still reciting the words of office.

I do believe in God and the words of the bible. Words in the bible have much to teach...yet I don't limit myself to the guidance of only the bible . . . my spiritual growth and what I learn comes from so many different avenues.

My being that way . . . I'd not use any ' prop ' while being sworn in . . . I'd simply use nothing and have myself sworn in with free hands...as my heart and soul is free and open.

Franklin Pierce (14th President) took the oath of office on a Law Book, and Theodore Roosevelt (26th)did not swear on any book at all.

There is no requirement to use a Bible during the oath, and the First Amendment would clearly prohibit any attempt to create such a requirement.

You don't have to be sworn in on anything. It's the oath that counts, not the object you have your hand on.

If you are elected by the public then it becomes your duty to respect their sentiments. Irrespective of my personal faith I would take the oath on bible or whatever it the custom is to take oath on.
