Can anyone tell me how long text messages are left of the system for, as we are having a debate about it and i think im right by saying 6 months, am i right.

does that include text messages sent to other phones as well as messages recieved, only on the providers system for 12 months.

in that case can you ever retrieve them back or not, sorry about this but on going argument.

It depends upon the mobile network, but in the UK the legal limit is 30 days under the data protection act. They're probably purged from the system much sooner than this though.

text messages left off which system? your service provider's? If so then they aren't kept on their servers except temporarily when, like New Year's Eve, more come in than can be squirted out every second. Then they can sometimes have a couple of hours backlog of messages waiting to be delivered.

Once delivered it will be wiped from the networks message store. If it cant be delivered straight away it is normally kept for a maximum of 72hours before being deleted automatically. Sometimes if its changed in you message settings ie validity period then it can be as little as an hour although most default to network maximum

Text messages only remain on the service providers system until they receive delivery confirmation, the message is then automatically deleted from the system.

Mine stay on till i take them off myself. you can set you phone to give you a time limit on them. you need to look though book that came with phone. hope that helps the debate
