I had a teacher who had been to the Dominican Republic several times and actually met her husband there. She explained that over there, there are no rude questions. So don't be offened if someone asks you something like how much you weigh or make. It's always good to just bring standard medicine like Tylenol for headaches, Sinus relief medicine in case you contract a cold and of course, you will want to be bring bug spray. In certain areas there are tons of bugs, especially mosquitos. I hope I helped out. Have fun!

I went to Republica Dominicana for Spring Break '06. I had a blast. Santo Domingo, Boca Chica, La Romana, Bano and Puerto Plata. I was all over the island. Medicines you get there from the pharmacia. No script needed for most. I had NO probs with bugs, dissentary anything like that. If you get a drink with ice in it, make sure the ice has a hole down the center. This ensures it is manufactured ice. The water system can get you on the toilet for days if you are not careful. Other than that, it is the most beautiful place I have ever been. If I were to hit the lottery, I would retire there. It is that nice of a place. Some of the most happiest people in the world.

WAIT. If you are planning to visit this country, and you are taking prescribed medications, MAKE SURE you bring with you a prescription or anything from your doctor indicating the name of the medications prescribed, the length you must take the medication.

If you have any problems while visiting the Dominican Republic, contact the International Family Aid & Support Center Headquarters, their web address is

Don't hessitate to contact them now if you wish. They can give you very good advise and help you in many ways. They are non profit and work with all countries in the world.

you need tetinus, polio, typhoid tablets but you have to buy them dont get ripped off though the doc tells you they are around 15 for a course but tesco do them for about 3-4 pounds if you kept upto date with your boosters you probably only need to have the tablets

only advice i can give is drink plenty of water, plenty of sun tan oil and if you can go diving it is an amazing experience to try if you havent done it i did it in jamaica 10yrs ago and again in aug in dom rep truely is fantastic and if you can afford the extra book first class seats like i did everything is paid for and alot more comfortable flight is a killer lol oh and have a fab time

My partner went to the DR. Haggle a price for taxis before setting off. Never accept the fitrst price for anything. Ignore the weather forecasts in the uk, they were wrong all the time. If you can get out and about.

I packed a small first aid kit, did not use it. Cameras, suntan lotion, everyday stuff (shampoo, deodorant, etc). did not have any problems with bugs. Drink bottled water only, make coffee with it also. tipping will get you better service. haggle with the price of something you want. enjoy yourself looking forward going back in April.

I'm going there too. I also posted a question. Reading your answers. Doesn't look too positive does it. I just posted my question, so hopefully we will get more positive responses. I will be sooooo pissed if this place sucks. Enjoy your vacation. Hopefully we will have good experiences!!
