On Madden NFL 2004 are there anyway too keep certain guys from retiring?

Is there anyway too keep certain players from retiring such as emmit smith in his 1st year he retires and i would like too keep him however every time i play a season i keep losing him to retirement is there anyway like in NFL 2k5 i can keep a guy for one more year thanks

i dont think u can on madden but on espn nfl u can

I personally don't know. But it's kinda funny because I'm still also playing Madden 04 instead the newer versions. I've never done this but is it possible to renew his contract before the season ends so he can stay longer?
