For example, you meet someone off the internet. You talk for months, and really get to know each other. Is it possible to fall in love with that person?

Well, if you're an 18-year-old and you find out that the person you "fell in love" with is in fact an extremely bored 45-year-old, would you still love them?

Or, if you find out that the person you've "fallen in love" with has recently been in an accident and their entire face is indefinitely distorted. Would you still love them?

On a more realistic level..

You fall in love with a person when you really know them. When you know their faults, but you can live with them. (If you are infatuated with this person, they have no faults.) With love, you know how the other person will react in each situation. You basically know them inside and out.

Is it really possible to get to know a person that well over the internet? After all, they can tell you anything you want to hear. They can change what they say with a simple push of the backspace button. And even if they insist they're being honest, how do you really know?

Also, how would it be possible to know how the person reacts in each situation if you've never met them? You only really know them in one situation: Over the computer.

So in a nutshell, no, I don't think it's possible to fall in love with a person without ever seeing them. If you are in love with a person and then for whatever reason, are unable to see them, yes, you can continue this love. However, if you start off with never seeing them, well, it just won't work.

You fall in love with the person that you think they are, which is not always the person that they really are.
You need to spend live time with them to see if they are the person that you thought they were. It's not physical traits that you are looking for, but the ways they act and interact with the world that we all must live in.
Be careful if you are falling in love with someone on the internet -they could actually be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

i believe you can become severely infatuated with the idea of a person. Via the internet, they have the ability to edit themselves through chat and e-mail. That's not to say anyone you meet over the internet is guilty of such acts, but you need to be aware of the reality of the situation.

I'm a believer that nothing can replace face to face/person to person interaction. The internet is an excellent ice breaker.

I agree with Hayle. It's the image of them in your head that you've fallen in love with. I believe you have to spend time with a person and be involved in their physical daily life to really fall in love. My friend was head-over-heels in live with a guy on the internet. They shared their pictures and their lives via internet for a year. When she met him in person, they dated a couple times and then broke up. Turns out, they weren't as compatible as they thought.

The only person with whom u can fall in love without even seeing him is GOD.
O/wise on the internet, its yr fantasy that u fall in love with if u are the type who falls in love with the ''idea''/concept of love.

i think so. Remember the movie "Sleepless in Seattle?" Even though 2 people have never seen each other face to face, they fall in love with each other's essence. It happens all the time, so you're definitely not alone. hope this helps.

no...

what you have learned to love was only the image produced with your verbal communications which can be easily edited to look like you're a very lovable person.

even if you think you're so much in love with the image produced via internet with that particular person, it is plain infatuation which you may outgrow once you see her/ him in person.

Well, I fell in love with my husband on-line, through many hours on the phone, and eventually web-camming.
But I was over half-way in love before I ever saw his face!

Yes BUT only if that person has been completely honest with you. You also should have been completely honest with them also. If they haven't been honest than you have fallen in love with the person that you believe they are.
