True friends would like you no matter your sexuality, but make sure you remain contact until you are unquestionably certain that they are indeed trying to distance themselves from you. Then go to a gay bar and pick up all the magazines and brochures that you can find. This will lead you to clubs/groups in your area. Also, you can try the Unitarian Church, they are very open to the alternative lifestyle. I hope you can find people that will accept you for who you are. And remember, be the friend that you would love to have. Good luck.

Many people don't understand gay people or don't know how to talk to you without being offensive. I think some people feel threatened and fear you will make unwanted advances to them. Many people feel that gay behavior is unnatural and a perversion.

No matter what the case is, the principle of getting friends is the same: be friendly.

As for me, I am straight; however, I do not hate gay people. If I met you, I would be your friend.

If these friends are truly your friends, they will accept to no matter your sexuality. And if they do not then their not the sort of friends you need. Live for yourself, not someone else. In the end who has to answer, you or your friends? Be yourself.

Well your so-called "friends" are not true friends after all. There are peope who single out others just because they think they're not as good looking, or as cool as they think they are. Trust me, I have been there... Find someone who can understand you and who accept you for who you are.

Just be friendly, nice and smile a lot, speak to people and don't let their lack of acceptance affect you, there are probably groups to join for you if you would check into it.

Look in other places for friends then. It sounds like you're in a very homophobic area.

are you sure they are distancing themselves from you? maybe you expected them to distance themselves when you told them so you subconciously started doing it yourself and they caught on to it and are subconciously doing it too. reach out to them. it might feel uncomfortable, but try.
