Good day. You cant really tell now cause u can say hackers cleaned up their act so the cannot be detected. U may kno when your computer is acting strange eg moving slow when connecting to the internet, program u dont recognize etc. I recommend u have antivirus protection, spyware and firewall protection.

Zone Alarm Free Firewall is the best:

There shouldn't be any signs if they are careful.
However, if the CPU runs on a continuous 100%, then you might want to get it checked on. Change your IP address, reformat your computer, get Norton Antivirus for a good firewall/antiviral program, or use a computer programmer to help.
I hope you know what Trojen horses are. They're the backdoor to hacking when you download things.
I suggest you get an Apple if you're having huge problems. If not, turn on your firewall and pray. Otherwise, no, it will remain the same.
Firewalls are a BIG defense. They're the strongest available, other than anonymous internet use.

The main and the most common sign is that you lose control of your computer. Uncontrollable cursor movements, opening of programs which you didn't open are some examples.

But there may be many others as well. Sometimes you won't notice that you're being hacked.

Best advice is to use a strong firewall and a powerful antivirus program. These will protect you from the bad guys out there.

By definition, no.
Hackers benefit most from silently taking over your computer, and using it to send spam or other things. They do their best not to alert the user of the computer in any way, as then they might run the risk of losing the computer, or being detected themselves.
However, if you keep your Windows up-to-date, use a firewall and a virusscan, you will be protected on the internet. If you make it hard for hackers to get in, they'll just search for easier targets. You have nothing special that they want anyway, so just make sure you're secure and they'll leave you alone and go for the people with less protection.
