A positive history in either mother or one of the grandmothers proves that fertility is possible. Infertility is just another possible symptom of PCOD. Just like all of the dozen or so possible symptoms, infertility may or may not be present. More than 80% of women with fertility problems caused by PCOD, properly treated and with patience, do bear a healthy child.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS, also known clinically as Stein-Leventhal syndrome), is an endocrine disorder that affects 5–10% of women. It occurs amongst all races and nationalities, is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, and is a leading cause of infertility. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly between women.

My fertility doctor told me that I needed to lose about 30 pounds. He said if a woman with PCOS is overweight (slightly or extremely) and lose that much, their chance of fertility goes up; they will have normal periods again, normal cycle ranges, and ovulation!!! Unfortunately I haven't lost the weight (Holidays hinder me bigtime). I do know a friend though that went on Weight Watchers and she lost it in about 3 months, started menstrating again and was pregnant within 6 weeks.

Good luck!

I just got diagnosed with pcos and my best friend has it as well, we are both on metformin to control the insulin resistence.. with diet and excercise there is a possibility of regular periods and even having children. My friend tried for years to have a baby with no luck, her gyno prescribed clomide and she got pregnant first cycle! I think with clomide there is a 60% chance of conceiving.

other things with PCOS are not so great, like metabolic syndrome, which apperantly I also have. my best advice is to take care of yourself and remain positive, with the right treatments(diet, exercise and medical attention) it is possible to have a normal life. find me if you ever want to chat...mishagrrr
