I'm a beginner, just started last year and I went on my first black (no falling, yay!) last weekend. No, I can't carve or do tricks.

I'm female, 5ft. 3 1/2 in. or 161.29 centimeters, weigh 110 pounds or 50 kilograms. I wear a shoe size 7 1/2 and sometimes 8.

Yes, I know that the board should got up to between my nose and chin, but I'm looking to order a board online and that won't help very much, will it? I thought that 148cm was a good size, but I was told to get a smaller one. Also, the snowboard sizing guide at http://www.frostyrider.com/tips/size-guide.htm told me to get a 140cm, but isn't that a little short?

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

I don't want to do any tricks, I jsut want a good, basic snowboard that'll easily get me down the mountain and help me get better(faster, carving, etc.). No jumps, no rails.

well first off what kind of board are you looking for

freeride or freestyle

are you wanting to get into tricks do you like the look of the park and you think thats where you will ride the most then

you want a slightly shorter board ad say 140 is good

or doo you like riding the whole mountain and speed and riiding all the different kind of terain is your thing

then you want a slightly longer board than 140

just chexk the board you are ordering has your weight within its weightrange

its not vital but if you want the most out of your new board make sure its specifications fit you

hope it helps

A 140 board sounds just right for your little frame, dont get a board with an agressive side cut. 6 or 7 is plenty for you, also you dont want the board to be too stiff for you either or you wont be able to give the board the flex it needs when you are making your turns. A longer board will serve the purpose for powder so you can make nice floaty turns, but if you are mainly sticking to the groomed runs stick to the 140. If you out preform that board then its time to get a new one!

Get something that is no taller than his chin it will probably be somewhere between a 140-147... I would suggest a Burton board and bindings, All the boards and bindings I bought, including my first, were Burton Never had any complaints with any of my boards and they've all lasted me a good amount of time except for my park board that only last a little less than 1 season but it didnt break cuz of the faulty manufacturing it was becuase the way I rode. I would suggest the Burton Punch in 145... THey run for about 230. Good beginner board at will last him for a season maybe 2 unless he grows out of it. The smaller the board is better to begin with becuase its easier to control u wont need as much effort to whip it around. I would say go with the Burton Freestyle Jr bindings but they wont be necessary and they run for 75 so my suggestion would be to go to the store and check some out... u wont need to spend too much esp cuz hes a beginner.. does he like Step in bindings or strap in... go check otu the stores and see what he likes.. u can get a good pair for under and around 50 bucks and they will more than work for him.. but remember if u get step-in bindings u also have to get specific boots for those step ins.. so when he does decide to get new bindings he also needs to get new boots

Get a K2 board. The Luna is a solid board that my wife loves. They also have the Skyla and Moment that are less expensive, but probably are almost as good. I'd recommend a 142-143 cm range.

Get one off Craigslist. It'll be cheaper and give you a chance to figure out what you want. Plus, you will want a longer board once you progress beyond beginner. Start short!
