The bottom of the antenna is sheared off and remains in the opening where it is attached. I need to remove that piece before I can srew in a new antenna. What is the best way to do that?

Depends where it is located. If it's in the front or rear fender it will be easy. If on the (A) pillar have fun. Take it to a repair shop would be your best bet. Chances are with that car you would have to remove the radio also. Hopefully the cord will unplug at the antenna base.
