I will even add to what you mentioned that if someone wants to call a lady in a way that would be heard by others he/she would not say her name, but the name of her son, brother, husband, father etc just to draw her attention. This is a tradition, not to call girls and ladies by their names so that nobody uses this bit of information to tease her in anyway, in other words to protect her privacy. In many cases the lady is called as om( mother of) then the name of her older son. And this becomes her name and she would be always addressed to as mother of.... This happens in the country side and among the lower class. They ask you cause they know that this rule does not apply to you. Modern girls who go to universities and or work are not shy about there names. But still do not like it to be heard publicly.
