I favour Peter Jennings, he was fair, intelligent(without benefit of a university education),compassionate and he stayed calm during horrific situations like 9/11. He also had a great background in reporting and not just sticking to the US, but all over the world. He was the youngest anchorman in Canada in the sixties and I think one of the younger ones in the US as well.

But yeah Walter Cronkite was a fantastic anchor as well. He showed his emotion, he'd been a war correspondent overseas during the second world war and he was one of the journalists when Edward R. Murrow was in CBS news.

I think the world knew Cronkite's influence when LBJ said that if he'd lost Walter Cronkite's confidence , the nation wouldn't be too far behind and that's when LBJ said he wouldn't run again.

Too many anchors, especially locally, are like plastic dolls, with lots of white shiny teeth but not alot of credibility or reporting experience in my opinion.

Journalists like Jennings and Cronkite asked the hard questions, risked their reps doing so and still retained their integrity and credibility.
