What brand computer and OS? What are you doing when it shuts down? Have you tried system restore? Run a virus scan and also use a spyware program like spybot. Many things can cause this and you have to be specific when working with computer problems. There is a website named something like "geekstogo.com" Try them too.

Open the computer and check that the CPU fan is running if not the CPU is overheating and thats why is shutting down. Other thing could be a bad RAM or defective power supply. It sounds more like a hardware problem than a virus.

It sounds to me like you've got a virus of some sort. I bet, if you have an anti-virus program on your computer, that it's stopping it from updating. Also if you have a firewall, that's probably been nobbled as well.
You'll need to download an up to date anti-virus program (even a freebie one like Avast or AVG) from another computer and install them. It would be no harm either to run anti-spyware and malware checkers on it either. This website http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm has a good list of freebie ones.

Sounds like you have a virus try clicking on to F10 when it starts up if not then it needs to be overhoard take it to a computer shop who should charge you around $40.00 or £20.00 to do this job for you. They will reload any windows etc.
