Is there any animal local to you that is endangered, or that is little known? Perhaps you could base your project on that, thus benefiting something that lives in the environment in or near where you live.

Try talking to any local wildlife groups or workers in your area to find out what animal they would find useful knowing more about so that they can better protect it and its environment.

Good luck with your project I think its great that you're trying to contribute something at the same time as working towards your qualification :)

I liked ukstubby's answer and voted for it - if you possibly can it would be great to do wouldn't it?

If not then are there any invasive, non native, species encroaching on wild life in your area or heading your way? Alternatively you might maybe like to look at possibilities for different worms and micro-fauna in rapid recycling of organic household waste / soil management / brown site reclamation - it really depends on what's going on where you live.
Best of Luck - Mike
