after seeing this type of problem so many times i have realised this problem is usually down to a hardware problem
first check and replace if needed your ide cables from the motherboard to hard drive and also the ide cables from the cd/dvd-rom to the motherboard
a virus check wouldnt go a miss and a spyware check aswell would be a bonus but im not convinced its security related
using a hand held vaccum cleaner clean your cpu and any other fan you may have in your p.c,but i want you to concentrate on the cpu fan as if this is full of dust and dirt it may be affecting the cooling of your processor and thus causing the freezes you are experiencing
try updating your direct x files ,go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx,and download the latest direct x,and also download the latest graphic drivers from your respective graphic card site
nvidia.....http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
a.t.i.....http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
basically you need to update all your drivers and carry out the tasks i have mentioned before, especially changing the ide cables
good luck

Too many reasons! In order to narrow it down, provide details such as what games, whether you have added any new hardware, etc. It may be due to overheating, clean the fans, it may be that you have too much software running in the background eating your ram. Try turning some applications off. If its a specific game, maybe the game requirements are too much for your PC. It also may be that you need to download a game patch from the game mfg.

It might be that your pc is using all its memory best option to add more memory to pc, do a disk clean up to empty temp folder, possibly defrag and try again playing a game.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
