Tuberculosis (abbreviated as TB for Tubercle Bacillus) is a common and deadly infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most commonly affects the lungs (pulmonary TB) but can also affect the central nervous system, lymphatic system, circulatory system, genitourinary system, bones and joints.

TB is spread by aerosol droplets expelled by people with the active disease of the lungs when they cough, sneeze, speak, or spit. These infectious droplets are 0.5 to 5 µm in diameter and about 40,000 can be produced by a single sneeze. People with prolonged, frequent, or intense contact are at highest risk of becoming infected, with an estimated 22% infection rate. A person with untreated, active tuberculosis can infect 10-15 other people per year.

Many countries use BCG vaccine as part of their TB control programs, especially for infants. I suggest you go get a vaccine shot too.

Don't be too alarmed by some of the responses on this forum.

There is a drug-resistant form of tuberculosis about, but generally it is fairly easily treated with modern antibiotics.

Also, although it is a contagious disease, you generally have to be living in close proximity with an infected person before the risk becomes significant.

It is also possible to contract a mild form of TB, which will provide you with natural resistance to the disease.

So there is no cause for alarm. But your friend needs to ensure she follows the treatment she is given, because if untreated tuberculosis can eventually be a fatal disease.

tuberculosis is an infection caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculum, a dangerous bacteria. Most common in the lungs, but can also be in bone or tissue. Difficult to eradicate and a serious public health problem.

It's a very serious disease. People can cough blood.
In ancient times, they had to live secluded to avoid any contact with other people and spread the disease.
Sorry for your friend
