Where to begin? What are the great lessons taught by the idiot box?

1. Buy more crap. You don't need it, you can't afford it, but we'll raise your credit card limit.

2. Sorry girls, unless you get implants, botox, and dress like a two dollar hooker nobody wants to know about you. Oh, and unless you accomplish all of the above by age 10 you might as well cash in your chips now. Here, have a Bratz doll.

3. Meaningful relationships are meaningless. Hook up, early and often, preferably outside your race.

4. Who needs reality when we have reality tv? It's pre-chewed. No bothersome thinking required, simply ingest, digest, and repeat.

5. White men are evil. If we absolutely have to portray one in our programming he will either be:

a. Stupid

b. Gay

c. jewish

6. Anyone who reads point 5 out loud is a homophobic, anti-semitic terrorist. We're taking names.

7. No news event requires more than 30 seconds to explain. You don't have the attention span for much more than that.

8. Did we mention the "buy more stuff" thing yet?

Sort of depends upon what you mean by "corporate mass media."

There are some very excellent writers/reporters out there, recognized by their peers for outstanding, professional work.

And then, there are the pretenders; those who rely on colored language and sensationalism for popularity.

Some Pulitzer winners in 2006:

Explanatory reporting - David Finkel of Washington Post

National reporting - James Risen and Eric Lichtblau of New York Times

I don't think Hannity or Coulter are in the running for any journalistic rewards.

I do not think brainwashing is the correct term. We have been seduced and lied to, but not brainwashed. They show their bias every day, but as long as a person keeps an open mind and realizes that sometimes it is not news , but, opinion that the media broadcasts, one cannot be brainwashed.

I've stopped watching television. I feel much better now. I no longer feel the need to overconsume or to care about Paris Hilton and Britney Speaars.

We only see and hear what we want to, its only ourselves we hypnotize. If you hate the box, as I do, destroy it or take over it by only watching media you want to watch yourself.

WELL IF I SAY I'M NOT, YOU SAY I PROBABLY AM...BUT,
I'M NOT. I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL CORPORATIONS LIE SO THEY CAN MAKE A PROFIT - I USE THE BRANDS I USE BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE. SOMETIMES I GET IT RIGHT AND SOMETIMES I DON'T.
