Hi,
I have seriously chapped lips. I have to apply vaseline every single day to keep them normal and if i dont apply it for even one day then they look seriously chapped. I have been doing this since about 3-4 years but it still does not help.

I live in a a cold place - London,UK.

you can cure this from the inside out, drink lots of water, dry skin is also a sign of mild dehydration. so drink more water and use a humidifier in your home to moisten the air, use sun screen when out side and slack off the vaseline some because , as mentioned here already, your body does get used to you supplying the moisture from the outside so the body doesnt do what it should to keep your lips moist. Do a yahoo search on chapstick addiction, sounds funny but its true. Most importantly though, DRINK WATER!!!

I did find some articles in Yahoo search and chose a few which I think would be most helpful. Although, we lived in the Philippines, we do get chapped lips sometimes in summer and during the cold months from October to December. We tried a variety of cures but we end up by just always wetting our lips with tongue and saliva , drinking plenty of water and staying healthy.

Here are some recommendations for preventing chapped lips:

Avoid going out in dry, cold weather without putting on lip balm or lipstick.
Try to keep the air in your home humid.
Use a sunscreen on your lips when outside in sunny weather.
Avoid excessive sun exposure.
Some recommendations for soothing chapped and sore lips:
Treat chapped lips with beeswax and petrolatum (Vaseline).
Drink additional fluids in winter months.

Vaseline is a petroleum product and does not heal. Find a natural lip balm with healing oils such as shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, etc.

vaseline wud help and if u need a kichen medicine...mix together half a teaspoon of honey or glycerine, half a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and half a teaspoon of castor oil....dont forget to apply a moisturising lip balm first....and then leave it overnight...it really works.
2) in the morn if u brush ur lips genthly wid a baby toothbrush in circular motions, the dead skin is exfoliated...leaving them soft and flake free....hope this helps

i use to use vaseline heaps and i realised that i became dependent on it...try use it less...ur lips will seem very dry at first but in the long run its prob best if u cut it down and let ur body's natural resources keep ur lips moist

Sounds silly, but try drinking more water. This will hydrate your entire body; not just your lips. Bet you have chapped skin, too; hunh?
