the human soul is inside a human, whereas a spirit is inside any living thing

Good question.
We Human beings are a form of trinity - The Flesh, The soul and the Sprit.
The flesh will directly communicate to the world through action and get feed back/ information.
The soul (or brain) will analyse the information given by the flesh and give command to the flesh to act externally.
The Sprit will interact with the GOD (destiniy/Universe) and the soul (brain).
The soul will interact with both the flesh and sprit.
Ex. Insticts - The sprit will instruct the soul(brain) and the soul will instruct the flesh. Chect the reverse chain - after the instintive action the flesh will give fed back to the soul and soul will in turn give feed back to the sprit such as OHHH GOD, thank you GOD ECt

Karma. We all participate to the universal karma, humans, animals, insects, trees and plants, even stones (whose karma is of course smaller than ours)
Now a spirit, philosophically speaking, is a bodiless incarnation.
It all comes to the same, does it not ?
