My understanding is that teen agers need way more sleep than they previously thought. Now they recommend 12 to 14 hours of sleep over a 24 hour period so that the nap your teen takes after school is included in their daily count. This facilitates better growth during peak growth periods and factilitates the ritght balance of hormones and electrolytes.

This depends where they live. If they live in certain arctic areas they can sleep 24 hours a night for several months of the year as there is no sun and so it is always night. The rest of the places they can likely sleep 12 hours or so.
Really this depends on when night begins for you and when day begins for you.
I suspect that the average teen requires at least 8 hours to be healthy

You've never slept that long?
Yes, it's true. Since we're (and I say we since I am one) growing so much and going through such a different stage, your body just needs to refuel, even when you're not tired. Also, teens' bodies tell them to go to bed later, and wake up later in the day, which is why many of us don't get much sleep then sleep for a good 10-15 hours on the weekend.
At least, I do. =D!

They can sleep as much as 13/14 hours. I think ten hours is the number of hours recommended that most teens get each night, but, of course, no kid gets that most nights.

Everyone is different. If you get X amount of hours of sleep and feel rested, than that's what's right for you. I used to occasionally sleep 12 hours or so when I was a teen.

I'd say as many as they want. A person is obviously somewhat tired that they fall asleep, and it is recommended that you get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

Yeah, it's true. In your time as teenager, your body grows a lot, and this happens most of the time at night, while your sleeping.
