There is no answer to this question.....it is different for every pregnancy. Could be 1 hour - could be 24 hours. There is no way of knowing until the time comes.

This isn't average, but it also isn't all that rare: About an hour and a half or so.

My two babies took about an hour and a half each (three hours of my life well spent and not a moment of boredom from admissions to baby-in-my-arms).

One doctor joked, "Next time don't be so relaxed". How much the mother's nervousness or lack of it may slow labor is something I don't know, but I've always kind of believed that because I was mature, very well informed about the process of labor and delivery, and pretty confident in my own ability to manage pain there is at least the chance that the labors were not as long as they may otherwise have been.

If I recall correctly, I think the average labor is about 7/8 hours.

It is different for every woman. For me, it took 26 hours. My friend across the hall (we gave birth the same weekend) -- 36 hours. Another friend, 4 hours.

Generally, the first child will be the most difficult and take the longest but you never actually know until it happens.

There is no right answer. I have known women who gave birth after a few hours and some much longer. It took me 18 hours with the first but took my cousin 5 hours.

I would ask your mom how long she was in labor with her pregnancies.

My water broke at 4:45pm and I had my daughter at 9:06pm. However, what I didn't realize until later is that I was probably in labor all day that day. I wasn't in huge amounts of pain, but I was certainly feeling a lot of tightening and pressure. I found out later that my mother had very quick deliveries as well.

It can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days. It is totally different for everyone, and no way to tell until you do it! My first was 14 hours, second was 2 days, third was 8 hours, no telling what the fourth will be.

I was in labor for 15 hours with my son and my mother was in labor for 19 hours with me. One of my family's long time friends was in labor for like 4-5 hours with both her kids but her mother was the same way with all 5-6 of her kids. So it really depends on the woman and her family history

The best answer to that is to ask your mother how long she was in labor with you. That is usually a pretty good estimate. However, labor and delivery times can range from a few hours to several days--each person is different. For example, I was only in labor for about 5 hours from water break to baby being born.
