If you have a power steering reservoir that should mean you have power steering. If you are planning on replacing it your self I would remove it and take the steering rack to the parts store/junk yard and say this is what I need its out of my 91 Accord. There are different steering racks. I know there is the power steering and the manuel steering racks and trucks/SUVs use a swing arm set up and im sure there are much more.

Why do you say it is the steering rack? It is much more likely that it is the ball joints, tie rods, tie red ends, or the power steering pump.

If you are right there is no "band-aid" fix. It is a new rack and pinion. All the others are fairly inexpensive compared to a rack.

If you car has rack and pinion steering, then not likely. As a side point, it must not be safe to drive with bad steering. Good luck.

Rack and pinion steering is a small hydraulic unit that is only replacable, there's not a way to make it work. Unless you've built them for a career, you may not even know which model it is.

I had the same problem with my firebird a few months ago. Asked my brother (a mechanic) the same question. He said that unfortunately you can't really do anything but replace it, and it's not really safe to drive until you do. Sorry!

Check the power steering belt. A new belt may help until you get it to a garage.
