It's not miserable - some of it is very funny, particularly the portrayals of Prince Philip and the Queen Mother. It's a masterpiece and all the actors are superb. I loved every minute of it!

I found it very enlightening and full of good drama. Helen Mirren is worth the money for her performance as she is excellent. I did not find it particularly grim, but it does leave one with thoughts of what does go on behind the Windsor family.

It's a good movie, with an uplifting ending so your mother definitely won't be leaving the cinema feeling depressed.
