How many non-indians are aware of the origins of Indian independence and the actual date and year? And are they aware of republic day and it's significance? I'm just asking because in my experience americans (no offense to americans, i'm an american citizen myself, born and brought up there), know shockingly little about countries and cultures other than their own. And their only exposure is the media which doesn't cover much. So, I was just curious.

You have a good point. The land mass of the US is so large that most of us will never have to travel outside our own borders. That may be the one of the reasons we are relatively ignorant of other cultures.

Brava Swati! (Great Swati! - in Italiano!)

I am an Indian born and brought up in India, but happen to hop a few western countries in the past!

I am also curiously checking the answers from different non-Indians for your question. You are right, very less non-Indians know about the significance of our independence struggle, date and year of independence and its significance!

Wealth is the main reason for all these differences, like, a rich fellow does not bother to know about the details of a poor guy!

Are you refering to American Indians or Indian Indians?Whichever it is there are so many different tribes around on our planet to remember everyone would take until Doomsday to check out all.The ones I remember would only come to my attention if a particular news story hit the screen. Then I may look further into the story & if it does something for me would act on that.

I don't think most non-Indians would be aware of any part of our history simply because they don't study it in school and they may not be interested, whereas quite a few Indians may be aware of the histories of Europe , USA or even China/Japan as we do read quite a lot and we are interested in countries other than our own.
