The NREMT was a nice idea, but it didn't really work. If your state is a "NREMT state" where the tests are the same and you can get both NREMT and state certs from one test then it will be transferable to any other state run the same way. The best thing to do is to check the state's EMS office and inquire about reciprocity. Some states will issue a license if you have an NREMT cert of a cert from a state that followes NREMT certification. Its very complicated and the best thing to do is just check with each state you want to work in.

It depends on what state you want to work for. Some states require the national registry test, but if you've already taken it in another state, then you don't have to take it again. Some states have their own specific testing, and you usually have to take that test before you can work in that state. Check the state's board of EMS website (you can find this easily with a Google search).
Hope this helps!
