America has been hated for decades (even before Bush was born). It's not just something new that popped up because we're fighting a war. We are disliked because people are jealous of our power and how we are able to live.

According to which country you're from:
1- If from Israel, it's obvious because you are of the few remaining explicitly racist and terrorist countries, a country applying apartheid against Palestinians.
2- If from the USA, I agree with what others have said that the US administration had been clumsy and really stupid. (I'm talking about the Middel East) It had systematically eliminated all secular parties in the Middle East and reinforced feudal and secterian forces that have an ideology of killing the other of different opinion or faith; it had done this to ensure an access to resources that a secular strong country would prevent the USA from abusing. These factions are all covered by the USA, that uses them against each other changing alliances from time to time giving the illusion of backing someone against another so in the end everybody hates the USA (and not all it's people) for enforcing these extremists that are turning our lives into constant turmoil with no prospect for a better future. And for those who would say that the USA is fighting terror, I would remind them that Osama Bin Laden has become a terrorist leader (spreading a terrorist and stupid ideology) by the help of the CIA to fight communism in Afghanistan. In 9/11 America learned the mistake of harboring extremists to achieve its goals, but its response showed that it hadn't learned a thing from that incidence. In Iraq for instance, it is supporting both Shiaa and Sunni Militias (the support can be through a proxy like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) watching them destroy their country while America gets the oil. But in just a few years Iraq would be a breeding ground for hatred and radicals and the US will be attacked again.

Now? We've always been disliked except in times of need. We're a target of double standards and hypocrisy. Radicals need to focus attention away from themselves and their actions. The US is a ideal nation to deposit responsibility for others actions. The double standards employed by most critics of the US are amazing, that supposedly intelligent adults could publicy make statements that are based upon such bias never ceases to amaze me.
I think that when conditions at home are miserable, opportunity is nonexistant and the future is bleak that it is easier to blame someone else than accept responsiblity for the consequence of one's actions. The US as the only existing super power is the only available depository for that blame.

We're not. For some reason or other, it is vogue to profess a hatred of America if you live in some other toilet country. This usually takes place in political discussions. But when you look at these other countries, or you carry on conversations that are apolitical (e.g. social, cultural, etc.), then you find that everyone else - while professing a hatred of us - wants to be more like us. They want to live comfortably; they wish that the poor people in their country could also be fat; they wish they could think and speak as they want, with no fears of imprisonment or death, etc., etc., etc. Many of the people you hear whining and crying and moaning about "American Emperialism" are from countries where the average folks on the street are BEGGING to become Westernized.

You've seen the pictures, in National Geographic and elsewhere, of the children from these turd-world toilet countries that are walking around wearing Coca-Cola hats, smiling from ear to ear when they see a McDonalds.

Whether you like the current President or hate the current President; whether you support the current war or condemn it; it doesn't matter... in the end, the lowest among us in America - the undereducated blue collar workers - can go on their lunchbreak and afford to buy a trendy four-dollar coffee from Starbucks. That's pretty cool. And, while they might try to deny it in political discussions, the rest of the world thinks so too.

Which country you talking of?
If you mean America, the answer is simple:
The USA under the (mis)guidance of their beloved(sic) president George W Bush, is the number one threat to global stability in that they refuse to listen to the opinion of anybody that doesn't agree with them, they take unilateral decisions when they don't get their way at the UN and they terrorize innocent civilians and sovereign nations that refuse to be subjected to the USA. Therefore it is the current USA administration (and indirectly the people who voted it into power) that is so despised.

Hope that answers your question.

PS: All those republicans that blame the press, FYI I do not live in the USA, nor do I buy any of their newspapers, I have come to the above conclussion based upon what I see in international media, or does the international media have some kind of Anti-Bush/Anti-Republican agenda? I think not

Oh and gktroy: wake up will you. It is exactly the self-righteous "america is the only country that means anything in the world" type of attitude that leads to the increase in Anti- American sentiments

If you're talking about the US, then i have to tell you we're not. The only reason you hear that we're hated is because you're listening to the press. The country isn't the problem. It's its power. People get jealous. Like Korea and China. You never hear any other country the a muslim or an asian country say that. The reason is that the muslim think "they" have the right religion, whatever, (I'm atheist) and hate the westerners for mostly being... Christian. (I'm talking about some terrorists.) And the reason Korea hates the Us... Is mostly because the Us is playing the big brother of the world. And the US is stopping them from making nuclear missiles. Now go to Africa or Eu, or any other asian country, (singapore ect) and they don't mind the US.

Fascinating answers don't you think. I guess all the Democrats that say Conservatives are stupid (but they are smart enough to control most of the Money and Business in America) and warmongers. Did they forget about Bosnia,Serbia, Somalia, Bali, cruise missiles into Iraq and Afghanistan, all little democratic wars? And who cares what most of the world thinks of us? Most people do not like the person at the top of the pile,

Because the media campaign has been a great success. If a Dem gets the white house you watch the immediate change in the tone of the media.

No, people around the world can differentiate between our administration and the American people. Unlike conservatives who have the intellectual ability of a fruit fly.
