It's not easy. But here's what I've been doing, and it's slowly but surely working!

First thing you want to do is copyright all of your stuff, it may not seem like a big deal but your word in the court of law is nothing without a little ©.

Have you ever heard of a chapbook before? It's a small book or pamphlet, usually of poetry and self-published. Make one.

Go to open mics, (they're everywhere check your local newspaper's entertainment section) bring copies of your chapbook, if anyone asks you about your poetry give them a free copy of your chapbook.

You may also want to record some of you're poetry and set up a website. (myspace can really help)

Carry at least one poem with you at all times, don't be afraid to read or show anyone how good you are, not only that but it can inspire someone else.

Read a lot of poetry too, the more you know the better off you are.

Good luck!

I would get a copy of the current Poet's Market guide. You can get them on Amazon or your local library will probably have a copy. It is similar to the Writers Market guides (and produced by the same people, I think). It will show you various places to publish your work and what the guidelines for submission are for each.
