i assume that u r not talking about the talent side, so here we go;

the director :have to be kinda controling the group -
1-they must be commited - 2- must obay the director in his/her directions and from the other side ;

THE DIRECTOR SHOULD: feel what each character can do and cannot -should not push any character to do something he doesnt feel like doing - should leave each character explode all its talents ( and dont shrink it )

The director also needs to be smart to know when he should be A dictator

Well......... I have directed skits and plays in my time, although I havent done it over the last 4 or 5 years.
First off you need an eye, an ability to imagine the makeup of the scene as it unravels, you need an instinct for the key actors, you need to know your audience and balace the creative with the appreciation, you need to have an eye for props in films its called art direction, you need to know the langauage, preferably an authority in the writings of the era atleast, you need a lot of personality, the ability to carry things on your shoulders in case of adversity........ I could go on

This is an interesting question. Strangely I've thought about this before.

I reasoned it probably takes a peeping tom who found a more acceptable outlet. A flasher with a camera. Flashing more appropriately.

I don't think there's any real "type"...if you look around at the prominent dilm directors today, you'll see that they run the gamut. Men and women, people of all nationalities, young and old...

If you have the requisite skill, you'll find your way.

coming from a theater group, i have seen many different kinds of persons who, regardless of who they are, have been really good in acting, singing, and directing.

what really has got to be there is the passion and it will take you a long way. :)

you need to be bossy, not in a nasty way but you need to be able to tell people what to do.
if you want to succed in this you need to be calm but bossy at the same time.
