Ok last night i put cookies in the microwave for about 40 seconds (i forgot about them) and i take them out and they start smoking so i grabbed them with a paper towel and threw them out of my window. The next thing i notice is the hand i got them with the finger nail on my thumb is stained. How can i get rid of this? Did i burn my nail or something?

Well, did it *feel* like you burned yourself or almost did? I guess it is possible you may have burned your nail, or perhaps just stained it with the smoke.
Try some nail polish remover. If that doesn't work, maybe some plain rubbing alcohol. As an absolute last resort, use a Q-tip and apply bleach to the discolored nail, but then be sure to wash your hands very well and apply a good lotion. I have had to bleach my hands/nails when I got black hair dye on them... it works, but can be very irritating to the skin!
Maybe if you just give it a few days it will eventually wash off.

I find it hard to understand how your THUMB nail could have gotten burned! If you look at the positionyour thumb is in when you grab something, your nail would naturally be out of the way of being in touch . And too, if the cookies were SO hot that they could possibly burn a nail, I doubt that you would have been able to "grab them with a paper towel and throw them out the window"

If there is a stain, it's probably from something else. I have found that a good way to make your nails look cleaner and whiter is to "bleach" them, usiing Hydrogen Peroxide. You can get it at any store where they have a health and beauty aid section. It's usually found where the bandaids, ointments and alcohol are located. I know that, at least in the past, some manicurists mix it with water to soak their client's nails in. It's not only a "bleaching" agent, but also an antiseptic that is often used for cuts and scrapes. It tends to help remove some of the discoloration.

In that I can't SEE how badly your nail is stained, it's hard to guess if this will work. The stain may naturally wear off after a number of hand-washings, but in the meantime, if the stain bothers you that much, just wear a fingernail polish that covers the discoloration.
