You may represent yourself, and it's called PRO SE, in court.

You may go to the District Justice, where the transaction took place, and file a complaint to sue them in that court of law.

There will be a court date, and since you have the bounced check, you already have evidence of the money that was owed to you. Bring everything to court on that date.

You can recover the check, the charges and the court costs.
However, if the person is broke, you may get a lien put against them.
This goes on their credit rating forever. You will eventually collect, unless they are a "dead beat" then it will take time, but again you will eventually collect, because it's on their credit rating, and their bank has their social security number and all of the personal information to track them down.

Don't give up. YOu will prevail.

GOD bless us one and all, always.

I am not chinese, I would be very pis*ed off if you gave me a check that bounced! You are in the wrong, you know you were in the wrong, pay up, and dont do it again!! And on top of that I just noticed you said 'bounced cheques' not cheque!! You must be on some sort of death wish, never mind what the bank or the Chinese think, I would not be at all happy. Pay up now!!! And apologise.

There is little you can do if the money wasn't there. Of course, if the bank made a mistake call the bank. However, if paying one check caused your account to go into the negative (or not enough to cover another check) then that is your responsibility. Whenever you write a check, you are guaranteeing that the money is going to be there when the person presents the check.
