So called a technician out to reinstall windows for me. I asked him if he would like a cup of tea, and when I returned he had opened up my hard drive and was taking out one of the memory upgrades.
I asked what he was doing (He was Asian) and he mumbled a lot of jargon and closed it up. Any idea what he was up too? He had a whole bag of sealed memory cards. I had to send it back to Mesh for repair eventually anyway.

Well if you called him over to re insatal your Windows XP, and you seen him openning the hard drive???

If you seen him taking out the RAM then there are some technical reasons.

1. you memory was not eneough
2. your RAMS on the system did not mach each other eg.. 512mb Ram with 400mhz and on the other slot 128mb RAm with 333mhz... then these two different rams will cause yoru systme to restart, freeze etc etc etc....

3.He might be checking if they were realy wot they were stated on your system. eg on your systme it appears to be 512mb of Ram but when u open the hard drive u see that there is 1G, but your systme only realises one of them???

So there are many reasons why he had opened the hard drive, he should of offered you a explanation...and one another thing how would you feel if same thing happens to u?

check on the invoice paper wot he has done? then let every body know what he carryed out..

Hey may be he was trying to swap your memory card with a faulty one. Be on the look out. Check your system to see if it still shows the same amount of RAM... If not report him. Reinstalling Windows doesn't require people opening up your system.

He could have been doing a preemptive check of the memory modules with an eye toward 1) making sure they were physically seated properly and 2) seeing if perhaps you needed more RAM.

Look. You admit you are computer illiterate. Don't jump to conclusions. This is like saying "I took my car to a mechanic and told him it wasn't running right... and he opened the hood and was fooling around in there! -- What was he up to??"

Probably nothing bad. Sleep easy.

The fact that he was Asian has nothing to do with what he did.
You paid him to re-install XP and he failed to do that; so go to Trading Standards.
When you bought your pc you would have been given a specification sheet. When you paid for this work you should have been given another detailing the work that was done. Take both of those with you when you see TS.
You may also need to contact Mesh to see what they found wrong with it.

You may not be very computer literate - but if you open up your hardware compnents (via control panel) see if you can spot the name of the memory chip (card) he may have removed. Maybe he simply inserted a new one?

At any rate ring him up (or the compoany) ask what he did and if you get no responce, then think about reporting him.

Seeing as you apparently have checked for viruses and spyware already (by applying the way, Norton Anti Virus is ineffective at looking spyware so i could acquire a anti-spyware application like Adaware SE and double-examine), it must be a hardware difficulty. First, in spite of the shown fact that, replace your video enjoying cards drivers to the main recent ones, as corrupted video card drivers could reason your computing gadget to freeze, crash ,reboot and in many cases behave inconsistently. If that would not help and you extremely have eradicated spyware and viruses, then that's in all danger a hardware difficulty. playstation : in case you have put in any addons for information superhighway Explorer, aside from the Yahoo, Google or Netcraft toolbars, do away with them. maximum addons for information superhighway Explorer are spyware or worse. additionally do away with any report sharing application you're working, as maximum report-sharing application is likewise spyware (aside from the bittorent customers).
