Better still, make the owner the subject:

The owner may extend the time to complete the work if convincing reasons are given.

(Award points, do not wait for 3 days. You want to complete rewriting the contract now Aren't you! Bring another)

With due cause, the owner may initiate a deadline extension.

If you don't like "deadline" you could say: With due cause, the owner may extend the timeline.
