Correct, are not all the same. Some prisoners are guilty, some had "fair" trials, some prisoners do not belong back into "society".
Some prisoners are innocent, some were convicted wrongfully, some prisoners deserve to be released.
Some police officers are honorable and some are not, some prosecutors are ethical and some are not, some judges are fair and some are not, some juries take their responsibility seriously and some do not.
Mandatory minimum sentencing is wrong. It fails to allow for the recognition of individuality, such an awareness of distinction is too costly. The system is horribly flawed and there needs to be an acknowledgment of that fact. Imagine yourself, wrongly convicted, appeals exhausted and no avenue, save prayer, open to you.
Acting in defense of a woman, being physically attacked in her bedroom, a small, old man intercedes. He hits the younger, larger assailant and the woman is freed. The assailant, drunk and high on cocaine, fights with the police when they arrive. He requires restraint in order to be transported to the hospital, because he is in a state of "excited delirium". He dies en route. The small, old man is serving his sixth year of a 19-40 year sentence because the death was murder.
Should we give SOME life sentence prisoner(s) a chance?

The recidivism rate is very high among convicted criminals, about 80%. The odds are very high that a person getting out of jail will commit another crime. Statistics do not support your belief that they be given another chance.
Prison is pretty close to hell on earth, even in the US. Criminals don't have much of a chance coming out better than when they went in.
In the Pittsburgh, PA area, a man was released from prison 19 years after being wrongly convicted of rape. DNA said he was not guilty. He has been in trouble with the police three times in 2006. In one case, he was looking to hire a man to kill a former girl friend.

People giving life sentence should never be allow to roam in the society freely.Majority of them if not all are murderers that have cause so much pains and grieves to innocent families. The statistics have shown that they are likely to re-offend because some of them have done it in the past.
I always say to my friends that forgiveness comes with a lot of blessings, killers should be forgiven but let to rot in prison because they are animals.Just look at the lawyer that was murdered by a group of morons in London recently, they killed him for the sake of mobile phone and token amount of money. It is just an example of how deadly and heartless this people are.

Depends on what the crime they committed was that led them to being given a life sentence. Child abusers ,murderers and rapists in my opinion deserve a life sentence. Would you give a second chance to someone who abused your child or murdered one of your love ones ?

I'm against life sentences period. If someone committs a violent crime they should be executed. People who rape, murder, etc. have to have serious mental problems and can never be trusted to live among sane people. For non-violent crimes a life sentence is'nt necessrary (my opinion) and 5 years should be the maximum sentence (again my opinion). We have a lot of problems with home invasions in this area and if someone ever breaks into my home when I'm here they will be taken out of society because they don't stop at just taking your stuff.

A life sentence means a serious crime has been committed. And no I don't believe we should forgive that and give a second chance. That is why we have repeat offender, We spank them and make them promise to be good and they go back and commits crimes again. When a life sentence is given then it should be served.

Ask their victims. Oh yes, they're probably dead so can't reply. They've had their lives stolen from them by someone who was found guilty in a court of law for a crime bad enough to justify their sentencing.
The correct question should be: how come people are released from their sentence early?
I saw a woman murderer being interviewed after being released from jail early. She said: I wouldn't harm a fly!
It wasn't a fly she killed. It was her boyfriend's wife.
Sorry, but if you deliberely commit a crime serious enough to be sentenced to life imprisonment, you should serve it.

They're not ALL the same, but I wouldn't take a chance on releasing the one that hadn't changed. Some of them out there have gone on to re-offend after being let out.
