No, marriage is not necessary to have a child. It will make life easier on the child but it may not make life easier on you. I wouldn't rush into anything but if you are going to have a baby don't let that be the entire basis of your decision to get married. Think about what you want before you make any big life decisions like this so you don't have bigger problems like divorce later in the child's life.

Necessary? I would say recommended.

I believe that two people can love one another and sustain a long term relationship without the trappings of "marriage," but if you're seriously considering spawing a child, you should have a deep enough sense of committment that you would have no OBJECTION to marriage.

Of course, as we all know, if you DON'T have a serious enough sense of committment, no piece of paper is going to keep you together.

Are you sure that you want to have a child?

No. One must be financially stable, and mentally and physically capable to fully support child. Marriage is the committment between two people. Having a child is an entirely different story.

No you could have a baby at any time in your life, as long as your over 16, but it also depends on your religion and your partener's point of view.If you both really want it now, then I say GO AHEAD!

Not if you mean 'necessary' -- I think it's the optimum route, though.
legal, insurance, religion, convenience all seem to lean that way
