It was good but very parochial. While the Army of the United States , between 1937-1943, redesigned itself into a modern mobile army. The German Army stayed predominantly a foot army with only part of it mechanized the American converted to all mechanized.

Man for man it was the equal of it's American Rival but American solders seemed to be better equipped, educated, and led over all then the Germans. The fault that I find with the Germans is leadership. The leadership of Hitler, with his stand fast orders and the German General Staff who stayed in Awe, it seemed, of Hitler long after he was disprove.

Also the German front line commanders were more likely to order a frontal attack then the American holding attack in which you attack frontally with half your force while the other half attacks from the flank. This is why Patton and other commanders were able to win in Europe with a smaller and lighter force.

Like what? They were generally better trained than most Allied nations, including the Americans. On the Axis, only the Japanese contained better quality soldiers.
