You could see if books at the library cover any of the following and/or do nexis searches for related articles, and/or look at the companies' annual reports online:

* McDonald's -- from its inception
* WalMart -- ditto
* Apple -- ditto, and its most recent success, the iPod
* Google -- that's a major, recent success story
* Amazon.com
* Toyota -- how it's poised to be the #1 auto manufacturer in the US next year, finally passing General Motors
* ESPN -- growth, profitability over its 25+ years
