wii backward compatability - new controller question?

Before the wii was released I read that some gamecube games would be able to be played using the new controller. Did it turn out that way?

no i don't think it did, and i think that they meant the classic controller...

No, you use the old gamecube controller, and you plug it in on the top of the Wii.
