Why does my laptop cursor misbehave? Do you know how to fix it?

This is hard to describe so I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

When you word process, you click where you want to start writing. Unfortuantely......What happens with my laptop is that the cursor starts to write where it hovers. I don't click, it just does it. I obviously can't move the cursor every time I write type a letter. What happens is that text starts to emerge somewhere else, usually in what I have already typed. It messes up everything and I spend half the time going back and tidying up the mess.

I have had this problem with EVERY laptop I have ever had and I don't understand why it happens. It drives me crazy to the extend of wanting to hit it will an enormous sledge hammer. .... infact, I think that would be too kind.

Does anyone know why this happens and whether it can be sorted out?

Is the touchpad right? I was about the suggest to change the laptop when you mwntion having the sae problem with EVERY laptop.Easy.Go to Control Panel,then go to the touchpad optoins,then unclick tabbing.Hopefully it works

It sounds to me like you're accidentally touching the touchpad as you type. This would most likely explain why it has happened on every laptop you've had. The thing is, (and i have no idea on how they actually work) even through paper, plastic and fabric a touchpad will still pick up movement. Try using an external keyboard (if you have a desktop pc as well this shouldn't be too hard to try - although if it has the round PS-2 type connection, connect it with the power OFF - they aren't plug and play) and see how you get on with that.
Other options are to learn to type with your fingers and hands above the case, not resting on it. Or, if you use and external mouse and are handy with a screwdriver you could take the computer to bits and simply unplug the touchpad's ribbon cable. (That's a wee bit extreme though..)

I think I may know what the problem is. The touch pad mouse on laptops is set so that if you tap it, it acts as if you have left mouse clicked, which would obviously move the cursor to wherever the pointer on your screen is. You can turn this off by left mouse clicking on the touchpad icon in your taskbar going into properties, then touchpad, and taking the tick out of the box where it says Tapping. I hope this helps.

can u select "open sub-menus when the mouse pointer hovers over them, i guess u have this option enabled or a option that does away with the manual click of a mouse and opens a programe/file just by "landing The cursor/pointer there for 5-6secs

Sounds pretty bizarre. Don't know why it would happen, but maybe if you fooled around with your mouse settings it would help. go into control panel-printers and other hardware- mouse (or mousepad or whatever)You can control speed, sensitivity and all sorts of other behaviour.
