Its true, but this type of advertising is banned. What happens it 1 shot of film would be of a burger, you would not consciously see it but your sub conscious would and you would feel hungry, go to the cinema shop and buy some ridiculously overpriced grub.

Mine is the other extreme...it is when they show stuff too much. Pulp Fiction is the whole reason I smoke now. I had only smoked a couple times in my life until I saw that movie. All I could think about by the time the credit rolled was a cigarette!
What you are talking about is called subliminal advertising. It is illegal in the US. But, before it was illegal, companies used to pay for time in movies so their product would be shown for a split second. It was proven that it worked because when they used items that the movie theater sold, people would get up during the movie and go buy that product because of the sudden craving.

No, that's just called someone with the lack of self control. I've never felt compelled to smoke when I see someone smoking, nor do I feel like I want a burger unless I'm really hungry.

It's called subliminal advertising and is banned for the very reason you state in your question. It could be used for many illegal, criminal and evil purposes. It is a form of brainwashing and is banned from TV and Radio as well.

Thats why they do the same thing with cigarettes in movies and ads in video games. Same concept as email spam. Throw billions of them out there someone is going to fall for it and spend money.

I think regardless of how you may feel otherwise you're always affected in some way by what you see.
Put it this way, if it didn't work do you think mega-corporations would spend millions on advertising on our screens?

It's called subliminal advertising but it doesn't actually work. Just another urban myth.
