I've never been there, but here's what i have heard:
- everything is spicy. My Dad bought a banana so he could have something without curry, and before he could stop them they opened it up and poured curry on it.
- there are a lot of vegetarians, and have been for a long time. There are also a lot of people who aren't. There are a lot of people who are specific about what they eat for religious reasons.
- rice in some places flat bread in others - beans everywhere.
- and the strangest thing: the indians i knew would eat pumpkin leaves but not pumpkins - they fed the pumpkins to the pigs.
