i cant seem to watch zone 1 dvds on my laptops because it is now programmed for zone 2 only. do u know of any software that i could download so i could watch american dvds?

Be wary of changing the region code on your CD drive. On most drives you only get to change code up to a maximum of five times and then you are locked into the last change you made. The HD solution sounds a better bet.
