Over the ages people have been full of fear. Wars and strife prevailed. They still continue in many places.

Some folks think wars have increased, but actually they have decreased. So why do we think they have increased?

It's because the media (TV, readio, newspapers, Internet) are more efficient at reporting the wars and bloodshed.

Since WWII, actual conflicts on a global basis have declined. And other improvements are related and important -- more people eat and fewer people starve each year.

This might be hard to believe, because various charities on TV are always telling you about starving children -- but in fact, more and more children are being fed today, then survived hunger just 50 years ago.

Things are getting better here on earth, but this doesn't make a very good or exciting news story. But more people are voting for their leaders than ever before. More people are purchasing their own homes all around the world. More people live in democracies, instead of under dictators or cruel kings.

Don't expect the good news to come with a loud trumpet. There is money to be made in scaring people and in constantly beating the 'terror drum.'

People who survived terrible brutality under evil empires 1000s of years ago were angry and hurt and scared. They mixed up their fear with their religion and wrote terrible predictions of world disaster. They didn't know any better.

We know better. We know that the world is improving, and that things are getting better. We know that there is still a lot of work to do, and that one person, doing one act of love or kindness can make a BIG difference.

Just believe and do the next right thing -- the Universe will take care of the rest! (Good question!)

with power hungry liberals in charge i agree with you totally. the threat is very real. one can only hope tax and spend fails before 2008 and these people come to their senses.
