There's a couple of options with Google video.

You could do it all with google and use the download link on the page. That downloads the file in a special google video format (gvp) you'll need to download and install the google video player to play back.

Another option, which also needs an additional downloaded program to be useful, is to cut the URL from the google page the video you want is on and paste it into the homepage on this site: http://keepvid.com/

This has been set up to enable people to download videos from many sites. follow the instructions there to get the file on to your computer. Once it's downloaded, you'll need to convert it from the flash video format (flv) to something more universal, like mpg (or 3gp if you want to use it for your mobile phone). For that you can download SUPER converter from here: http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html . It's free.

NB. SUPER converter needs you to drag and drop files onto it to load them. Right clicking the file and selecting 'Open with...' doesn't work.

apart from using keepvid, you can download the .gvp file and open it with notepad
copy the entire address (but only the address!) after url:
paste it in the address bar
this will provide a link to download the original .avi or.wmv file

for example, the url for the holly valance video is:
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-947471028536600629

the link to the avi is:
http://vp.video.google.com/videodownload?version=0&secureurl=uAAAAOETeZeEqiy1nmyKjtGEmciFE6TXDa1i_IDg1lU7b3abtPyxOfjpE5ojmKGPoSr61NNiG9Nmgp6N-0w-SOOr18C-j01S_2mzrefKDLD6HllWCz5nr7SoZAC_b_IAYn2FyRLaoXm9bcV4zNLTCPijZjGpCaQm90BubVAM9TGshovF0gJzZrl6QmQruDwag0ZlghJMOEZJ32HBlHjcotLo8SmOmYzwkLoeJm4edmUtmCfzjbqjkmTqREVbyP1gsEDDjA&sigh=h7slhvfbcPiIa_asDMeOr-bbcLY&begin=0&len=90067&docid=-947471028536600629
docid:-947471028536600629

...and my god, holly looks hot!
