"i think therefore i am" ("Cogito ergo sum") is a miss translation from French to Latin to English that got lost along the way it is a philosophical statement used by René Descartes, which became a foundational element of Western philosophy.

"I think therefore I am" implies that existence is the effect of thinking, which is a philosophical fallacy.

The lost translation was "cogito, sum" which translates to....
"I think, I am" meaning that in doing the thinking, he is also existing at the same time. The thinking and the existing are simultaneous and not causal.
The birth of this phrase was from "dubito sum" meaning "I doubt, I am" .to be able to doubt, one must exist within the doubting, there is existence, and vice versa.
But he felt that this phrase was misunderstood and misleading he replaced it to be better understood with "I am, I exist"this phrase often called "the first certainty"

I think about doing that every morning but then I think, "what the hell else am I going to do?" so I get going to work. If I HAD something better to do then it would be a no brainer but to call out and then do nothing is a waste of my time, a sick day (if you have any), and an excuse. I wouldn't beat myself up over it, either. You may have had a "mild, temporary case of depression". The only real preventative measure for morning blues is fast, furious, hungry- for- breakfast- as- the- risen sun- glares- in- the- window, sex.

I'm pretty sure that what Descartes meant by this phrase is that the fact that you can think, ie the existence of your consciousness, is proof that you exist in some form or another, whether it be as a physical human being, a character in a novel, or a creature in a toddler's dream.

"Cogito ergo sum" translates as "I think therefore I am" which implies that existence is the effect of the cause of thinking, which is a philosophical fallacy. This jargon is equivalent to making existence a quality with which can be put on an object. [E.g. This ball is red, round, filled with air, and (oh by the way) it exists.]

It arises from the search for truth. How do we know what is true? What exists? How do I know I exist? What evidence exists to prove I exist?

I know I think, therefore I exist. "I think, therefore I am". What cannot be proven is the existence of others. This leads to conceptions of solipcism (the belief that you yourself are the only thing in existence. everything else is an illusion).

It basically means that if you think then you exist. But for me, it's more like "I feel therefore I am". Just like Nicolas Cage in the movie "City of Angels" when he became human he started feeling pain, cold, the taste of blood, fear and joy.

The phrase is drawn from the Latin, "Cogito ergo sum," and it means that by thinking and imagining and by implication, creating, I am establishing myself as alive and functioning.

If you think you are a real rational human being, worthy of existing. If not, you just are...

Its saying that, if you never have any real thoughts, you are not truly living. Its saying that to be truly alive, you have to have a personaity and a free mind. Atleast thats how I interprutted it.
