I dont think either more important then the other. They are both public figures, they have different jobs and different "responsibilites" to the public. We may see more of Oprah but as someone else has pointed out she has a television show that is viewed by millions of Americans daily.

um. Ms. Rice isn't the "distant places minister." She is the Secretary of State. Which brings to ideas the bible verse approximately casting the 1st stone... because of the fact for sure Condi can't administration Israel. She needs a end-fireplace in each and every week; Israel needs a protracted-term conflict. that's what negotiation is all approximately, genius.

Oprah seeks publicity. She has her own show, and makes many public appearances. Granted, she has done some good altruistic work, most recently in South Africa. Condi Rice on the other hand wields a more subtle power, as she doesn't often seek the limelight. She has great influence on US foreign policy. She is 5th in line to the presidency. I find Rice to be far more 'important.'

Oprah does more to help the common American, she's smarter, richer, has actually been where a lot of people are
(Condi is a spoiled rich kid)....Oprah is not in Bush's pocket, she's not an idiot....does not openly lie to the American public with that stupid bucked tooth, space wide enough to drive a truck through grin.
She is also not an uncle (or Auntie) Tom who sold out the Republican party despite all it has done against African American people (who don't come from rich elite families like hers).

Why is Condelezza Rice important to America? I believe neither of them are "important".
Ms. Rice serves as Secretary of State, a political position, and she serves at the pleasure of the President. If he wishes to relieve her of her job, she'd be back to private life, and never really heard from again.
Oprah, on the other hand, is a celebrity. Many people need to get a "fix" of entertainment & celebrity gossip, which is why Oprah is so popular. Oprah, at least, is involved in charities, which helps children, which is more than I can say for Secretary Rice.

Might be because Ms Winfrey actually does some good in and for our country. Ms. Rice is no more than a glorified politically correct yes person.

because Americans watch tv more and she takes up very important issues in her show which are very important to personel lives. her issues on shows are simple and down to earth. Rice is government person and talks like a politician and politician are not preferred over showmen/women. An actor can become a politician but politician do not require to be actors, they are the greatest actors already

Because more people believe that the easy choice is always the correct choice.
Oprah expounds easy choices..."It's not your fault," "Your a victim," "Your feelings never lie," "Eat less and you'll get skinny," "Read a book and you'll be the smartest person in the world," etc.
Condie takes the opposite tack...that hard choices have to be made in many instances, and that those hard choices might involve personal sacrifice, discomfort, inconvenience, etc.

Both of them are highly intelligent women .Oprah is good at what she does.Television is a powerful medium as we all know.
Both of these women are of equal importance in that they have shown in their individual fields what hard working women can achieve.
