Since marriage is only a human thing, and doesn't appear anywhere else in the animal kingdom, why are we so fixated by it???
There are creatures out there that mate for life, and others that don't... So why is it we have to put these "bonds" on our mating???

Religion??? What a cop out!!!
We aren't better than the rest of the animal kingdom either - or don't you think we evolved as part of it???
And how does marriage make us better??? That is just a stupid comment!!!

The question is, WHY are you married? Many of us value it, but not all human beings do. You obviously don't, so in the world are you married? If I didn't believe in something as strongly as you don't, I wouldn't be married either!
So, I don't agree with your question. I don't see where all humans are fixated by it. I see human beings as the most intelligent animal species out there, with individual choice. We can all make decisions on our own. You choose something that now doesn't sit well with you. So, why are you still fixated on staying in a marriage that makes you so unhappy?

Well, we are fixated by many things that are only human, and don't appear anywhere in the animal kingdom. What's your point? Laws, contracts, jails, courts - it all only exist in the human culture; animals have not invented any of this stuff. Even religion itself is a product of the human mind. We are humans, and we conduct affairs in the way we do... It includes all kinds of legal and social concepts, bonds and contracts. Marriage is but one of them.

It can be a religious thing for some people but I wouldn't say most...not for me anyway. Marriage is the ultimate commitment. Although it's not necessary to prove your love for one another, it does say a lot about a relationship. It means you are in it for good or at least you want to make an active effort in a relationship. I know many say "it's just a piece of paper" but it is so much more than that. You love eachother so much that you want to be legally (or religiously) bound to eachother. There's nothing wrong with that.

Because we are SUPPOSED to be more intelligent than most of the other animal kingdom. We have religion, we also know right from wrong. Come on when I see a player I think what a dog. Do you really want to be compared to a chimp or a rat?

when you find or meet the right person you will find yourself married weather you put it on paper or not. religion has little to do with it. its the nature of it. when you find the one person that makes you feel certain way, you will keep coming back for that feeling that you can only get from being with that person. if the one you are with now lets you feel as you have stated then she is not the one........ your view will change when the right one comes along...

i think that humans have deeper thought and morals and stuff like that so to us to be commited to our 'mate' is really important as it shows them that they are loved and makes the two mates feel better about themselves, as humans we don't mate to increase the population of our kind - there are other reasons like love and happiness.

To know they are your children. So not to mate with sister, mother, aunt, niece, where genetic disorders may accumulate.

no one is asking you to tie the knot ...but in reality by having a marriage you will be responsible towards your love one and able to appreciate life better.
